The Topspin 360 provides the core switched infrastructure for
deploying server clusters and on-demand computing.
Introducing The Topspin 360
As the industry's first Switched Computing System, the Topspin
360 provides unprecedented levels of availability, scalability,
and manageability for deploying server clusters and on-demand
computing. Switch modules provide multiple terabits of internal
bandwidth, and up to 12 expansion modules for Fibre Channel
and Ethernet in a single enclosure, providing "pay-as-you grow"
scalability.
Unparalleled
Performance
Expressly designed to apply networking principles to computing
problems, the Topspin 360 uses a switched, 10 Gbps fabric
to interconnect server resources at unprecedented performance.
The combination of high bandwidth and low latency allows resources
to be disaggregated and dynamically reassembled without the
limits of the server's shared PCI bus.
Unified Fabric
The Topspin 360 integrates storage, server, and networking
I/O into one unified fabric. With only one interface card
in each server, all resources can be managed on one fabric,
eliminating the need to install and manage multiple Ethernet,
Fibre Channel, and IPC cards. All types of I/O can be aggregated
and load-balanced, significantly reducing the number of managed
ports and increasing availability.
Transparent Topology Architecture
Based on the Topspin Transparent Topology Architecture, the
Topspin 360 creates virtual IP and Fibre Channel interfaces
in every server, allowing existing IP and storage area network
(SAN) resources to be seamlessly extended to server clusters.
Using Fibre Channel gateways, SAN management technologies
can "see" each individual node, enabling critical storage
management and security models, such as Fibre Channel fabric
zoning and storage based LUN zoning. By adding Ethernet gateways,
IT managers can also enable full IP routing, extending the
value of server clusters to the rest of the enterprise.
High Availability
Designed for enterprise-class redundancy, the Topspin 360
has no single point of failure. By combining dynamic load
balancing and port aggregation, the Topspin 360 eliminates
any single point of failure in switch blades, controllers,
gateways, and ports. All removable components are also hot-swappable,
including controllers, power, and cooling.
Easy Management
Configuration and maintenance are simplified with an element
manager graphical user interface (GUI) and full command line
interface (CLI) via Serial Console or Telnet/SSH, enabling
remote monitoring, upgrades, and troubleshooting. With Topology
Transparency, existing SAN and IP management tools work out
of the box. The Topspin 360 is also fully compatible with
applications that support SNMP, allowing IT managers to reduce
management time and total cost of ownership.
